Spike Lee is the latest cover star for Kevin Durant's Boardroom.
Reflecting on the course of his 40-plus year career, the interview, which was conducted by Rich Kleiman and written by Damien Scott, took place at Lee's 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks production studio right before the Cannes Film Festival debut of his upcoming film 'Highest 2 Lowest,' which stars his longtime friend and collaborative partner Denzel Washington. The conversation covered a lot of topics, including the legendary director's experiences working with Michael Jackson in the 1990s.
"Out of nowhere, Michael Jackson calls me," Lee reflected with Kleiman. "I pick up the phone and say 'hello...hello who is this?'...'It's Michael'...I hung up the phone," he continued laughing. "Then Michael calls again...'It's Michael Jackson Spike'...I hung up the phone!" Determined, Jackson called Lee a third time, and this time his voice was much deeper, according to Lee.

"I told him I couldn't go because my daughter was four months old at the time, so he came to New York. When he came to New York, he asked if he could see my daughter, then he held her and kissed her."
"Then we went into the living room, he hands me the CD. He said 'Spike, if you have to pick one song'...I loved every single song. He said 'Spike, you have to choose one. I said, 'Alright, you put a gun to my head, I would like to do the short film for "Stranger in Paris [Moscow]." He stood up and said '"Stranger in Paris [Moscow]...you want to do "They Don't Really Care About Us!"'...well he should have told me! The trick is to get somebody to do what you want them to do is make it seem like that's their choice. That's that gangsta s—t!"
