SN 140 Moments: No. 93 - Joe Carter hits walk-off home run to win World Series for Blue Jays

15 hours ago 2

The names Bill Mazeroski and Joe Carter will forever be tied together in history. When, or if, they will have company is unclear. As MLB closes in on the 125th anniversary of the first World Series, however, those two men are the only players who can say they hit a walk-off home run to win the World Series.

Thirty-three years after Mazeroski's moment for the Pirates, Carter came through for the Blue Jays to capture a second consecutive championship. The All-Star outfielder came to the plate with one out in the ninth inning of World Series Game 6 in 1993, facing Mitch Williams with two runners on. The Blue Jays trailed 6-5, though they would have lived to see another day if the Phillies closed out the win. Instead, Carter belted a championship-clinching home run to left field, fireworks sounded and Toronto celebrated again.

"Touch 'em all, Joe! You'll never hit a bigger home run in your life!" was the iconic call from Tom Cheek that lives on in baseball history.
