Sixers 16.2 PPG guard predicted to cut ties with Philadelphia, enter free agency this offseason

The Philadelphia 76ers have found themselves with an abundance of young superstar guards in Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, Jared McCain, and Quentin Grimes. However, there is only so much playing time they can split between them, meaning one of them will have to go.

Fansided’s Bryan Toporek believes the guard getting the short end of the stick will be Grimes. The Sixers and Grimes have still not come to an agreement on a long-term deal, and it doesn’t look like they will anytime soon.

“With only two days left until the qualifying-offer deadline, both sides still appear to be deeply unserious about negotiations. Grimes was phenomenal during his 28-game stint with the Sixers, but he also took advantage of a larger-than-expected opportunity on an injury-ravaged team that was circling the drain on a lost season. It's reasonable for the Sixers to want to see how his production translates to their full-strength roster before they pony up the same rate that the Chicago Bulls just gave Josh Giddey on a long-term deal,” Toporek wrote.

So far this season, Grimes is averaging 16.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in 33 minutes per game. He’s been a great scorer off the bench and acts as a sparkplug for the Sixers.

According to Toporek, the Sixers and Grimes have until Wednesday to make a decision. Wednesday is the last day Grimes can accept his one-year, $8.7 million qualifying offer; however, if he wants a long-term deal, he probably won’t find one in Philly.

Hopefully, both sides can work something out, as Grimes is a star that Philly shouldn’t want to lose. However, if they can’t, then it’s time to start thinking about who the Sixers should get to replace Grimes.
