Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby opened up about his experience rooting for the Toronto Blue Jays during the 2025 World Series. Crosby, who is Canadian, cheered for the Blue Jays, Canada’s only MLB team, as they face the now back-to-back champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

The World Series headed to Game 7 last Saturday night, with plenty of Canadian and non-Canadian NHLers cheering for the upstart Toronto team.

Crosby had this to say about his experience rooting for Toronto:

“I was pulling for them, obviously... but you just feel how bad everybody wanted to see them win. You know, it was too bad to see the way it ended up.”

The comments captured during a locker room media availability and published on November 3 reflected just how much support the Blue Jays had, not just from Sidney Crosby, but seemingly from everyone around the NHL.

Sidney Crosby added:

“It was such an easy team to root for. You could tell they were a tight group, and just the way they played and how everyone chipped in at different points. It was a lot of fun to follow that.”

Crosby knows a thing or two about losing and winning in championship finals. The Penguins lost the 2008 Stanley Cup Final to the Detroit Red Wings in six, before coming back and beating the same Red Wings team the following season in seven games.

Sidney Crosby heads to Toronto as city still reeling from heartbreaking World Series defeat

Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins are in Toronto for Monday night’s clash with the Maple Leafs. The city is still reeling from the crushing loss, which happened at Toronto’s Rogers Centre.

With most fans still in shock following the Game 7 loss, they will now turn their full attention to the Maple Leafs. The club is coming off a 5-2 win in Philadelphia on Saturday night, but is off to a subpar start.

The Leafs will hope to change that against Sidney Crosby and the Penguins. For his part, Crosby hopes to continue the stellar start by the Penguins this season. The Penguins sit one point off the league’s top spot with 18. Their 8-3-2 record is much better than anyone could have anticipated at this point this season.

That record has been fueled by a strong first month from Crosby and teammate Evgeni Malkin. The duo will hope to continue rolling against the Maple Leafs, who are struggling to stay above water this season.

The clash will take place at Scotiabank Arena, as the city of Toronto tucks baseball away for the winter and focuses on the bulk of the current NHL season.
