A former WWE star lost a high-stakes match tonight. The go-home show of AEW Dynamite was filled with fun matches and moments. Ricochet has been on a roll since winning the AEW National Championship at Full Gear. However, the former United States Champion couldn't continue his momentum as he failed to defeat the reigning ROH World Champion, Bandido.
Last week on Dynamite's Holiday Bash, a Battle Royale was announced to determine the top contenders for the Dynamite Diamond Ring, which had been held by MJF. The Salt of the Earth had possessed the ring since the company's inception. Ricochet and Bandido survived last Wednesday's contest and faced off in the finals of the Dynamite Diamond Ring.
The two had an excellent match. In the end, the three-time WWE champion tried to cheat and emerge victorious. However, Bandido cleverly turned things around in his favor and won the match via a quick roll-up. He also won the AEW World Title shot at Maximum Carnage on January 14.
AEW President Tony Khan talked about Ricochet's demand in the industry
Ricochet has a reputation as one of the best high-flyers in the pro wrestling business. He didn't have a noteworthy run in WWE, but fans have been enjoying his booking in the Jacksonville-based promotion. He recently became the All Elite Wrestling National Champion.
While speaking on the Battleground podcast, Tony Khan said fans want to see Ricochet wrestle in promotions such as CMLL, NJPW, and ROH.
“We’ve got a new National Champion, Ricochet, who will be defending that title all over the world. And he’s somebody that not only AEW fans respect–I believe he’s a great, great wrestler–but also someone who is a huge name in wrestling and a great person to represent [All Elite Wrestling], not just here on our TV shows, but also when traveling to other promotions in America. Companies like Ring of Honor, New Japan Strong, and even in Mexico with CMLL–lots of other promotions want to bring in Ricochet. He’s a hot booking right now as the National Champion," he said.It remains to be seen what is next for Ricochet after the recent setback.
