Shivam Dube slammed a six off Ottneil Baartman to begin his innings with a bang in the fifth T20I between India and South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, December 19. The shot came in the last over of India’s innings. Baartman bowled a slower one in the slot, and Dube, who was standing deep inside the crease, picked it to perfection and launched the ball deep into the stands over mid-wicket.

The left-handed batter eventually finished with 10 runs off three balls to provide a solid finish for the Men in Blue.

Shivam Dube provides finishing touches as India set a mammoth 232-run target for South Africa in the 5th T20I

Shivam Dube performed the finishing job as India posted 231/5 against South Africa in the fifth T20I. Tilak Varma top-scored with 73 runs off 42 balls, hitting one six and 10 boundaries. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya hit a quickfire 63 off 25 deliveries, comprising five sixes and as many fours. The duo shared a 105-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Earlier, openers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson slammed 34 (21) and 37 (22), respectively. The duo shared a 63-run partnership for the opening stand. However, India captain Suryakumar Yadav continued his poor form, perishing for a single-digit score.

Meanwhile, Corbin Bosch was the pick of the Proteas bowlers with two wickets but conceded 44 runs in his three overs. George Linde and Ottneil Baartman bagged one wicket apiece.

The Men in Blue are 2-1 ahead in the five-match series, having won the first and third T20Is by 101 runs and seven wickets, respectively. India haven’t lost a T20I series since the 2024 T20 World Cup victory.

On the other hand, the Proteas won the second T20I by 51 runs. The fourth T20I in Lucknow was abandoned due to excessive fog. Thus, the visitors must win the game to avoid a consecutive series loss. They lost their last T20I series 2-1 to Pakistan.
