Shedeur Sanders may be cut by Browns before NFL season starts, based on GM's team-wide message

Shedeur Sanders is in the same boat as the rest of his Cleveland Browns teammates.

At least, that's how general manager Andrew Berry explained it on 92.3 The Fan on Friday morning.

"Kevin’s message to them last night during the first team meeting was, hey, your focus is — I’m going to sound like a broken record here — but it’s to make the team, nobody here has made the team yet," Berry said. "So it’s making the team. And then after that, it’s earning a role. That’s the same thing for Shedeur.”

Clearly, Cleveland doesn't want anyone to get complacent, and they don't want to seem like they're playing favorites.

It's still not a tough spot to be in as Sanders, who is maybe the most scrutinized fifth-round pick ever.

The Browns can't say he's guaranteed a spot, and he's probably not.

At the same time, any questioning of his chances leads to articles like this one on every sports website out there.

Clearly, the Sanders conversation won't dissipate as the season gets closer.

It's just up to Sanders to play up to his potential now.

If he was truly meant to be a first-round pick, he can prove every team in the NFL wrong by shining brightly for the Browns.

But if his draft free fall was legit, maybe Sanders will stumble. Maybe, as Berry says could happen for anyone, Sanders won't even make the team.
