A top AEW female star has just announced their retirement from in-ring competition after a career spanning two decades. Fans have reacted to this with some claiming that the latter parts of her career were less memorable.

Madison Rayne has had an eventful career, having competed for several top promotions. She made appearances for Shimmer Women Athletes, ROH, WWE, AEW, and TNA, where she spent most of her career competing. She had a decorated career for the promotion, winning eight titles during her tenure.

Last night, an episode of ROH TV aired, featuring the 39-year-old in tag team action. This was taped during AEW's visit to the Hammerstein Ballroom, as she teamed up with Deonna Purrazzo to take on Diamante and Billie Starkz. They ended up losing the match, but Rayne was satisfied with the outcome as she revealed that she was retiring during a heartfelt moment with Purrazzo backstage.

The AEW star has hinted at her retirement for some time

Almost two weeks ago, Madison Rayne posted some pictures from different points in her career. This included moments from her 20-year career, including her recent match at the Hammerstein Ballroom for ROH.

"It was the end of an era ✨" Rayne wrote.

Little did fans know that it was a major hint at her in-ring retirement. The match and her backstage promo were taped at the time, and this has only aired now. But this confirms that she has now hung up her boots, ending an illustrious career.
