A recent report has shed light on WWE legend Shawn Michaels' backstage reaction after referee Felix Fernandez made a controversial call. A huge title match ended in a botch.
On last week's edition of WWE NXT, Blake Monroe locked horns with Thea Hail for the Women's North American Championship. This match ended in Hail's favor after she hit her opponent with the Springboard Back Senton and successfully pinned Monroe to become the new champion. This was a massive botch as the Shawn Michaels-led creative team had reportedly booked Blake to retain the gold. However, the star got legitimately injured during the match and couldn't kick out on time, which led to this finish.
Fightful initially reported that there was no backstage heat on referee Felix Fernandez for this finish. However, later in a new report, it was mentioned that some people were not happy with Fernandez. It was also mentioned that there actually was backstage heat on Felix for not examining Monroe's injury.
Now, according to the latest report by Fightful, Shawn Michaels, Matt Bloom, and other referees allegedly told Felix Fernandez that he did the right thing during the title match.
Blake Monroe and Thea Hail are set for a rematch at WWE NXT New Year's Evil
On this week's WWE NXT, Thea Hail came out to cut a promo after her shocking Women's North American Championship win. She said that she couldn't believe she won the title and was now feeling like a "grown a** woman."
Hail was then interrupted by Monroe, who asked her to give the title back, claiming that she accidentally lost the match. A brawl then broke out between the two stars, and officials came out to separate them. After this segment, it was announced that the two would face each other in a rematch for the gold at New Year's Evil.
It will be interesting to see what the Shawn Michaels-led creative team has planned for a rematch between Blake Monroe and Thea Hail.
