Shafali Verma played a terrific knock in the ICC's Women's World Cup 2025 final against South Africa as India Women created history by lifting the trophy for the first time. The aggressive opener smashed 87 off 78 balls as India put up 298-7 after being asked to bat first. Her knock featured seven fours and two sixes. Shafali also claimed two wickets and was deservedly named Player of the final.

In an amazing turnaround of fortunes, the 21-year-old was added to India's World Cup 2025 squad after Pratika Rawal was ruled out due to injury ahead of the knockouts. Rawal had contributed 308 runs in six innings and Shafali came into the team with big shoes to fill. The youngster perished early in the semifinal against Australia, but reserved her best for the final against the Proteas.
