The Seattle Seahawks had an incredible 2025 NFL season, as they won the Super Bowl for just the second time in franchise history.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba might've been the highlight of the entire roster, as even though he didn't do much in the Super Bowl, he won the Offensive Player of the Year award and was one of the best players in the NFL.
But, Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport is predicting that the Seahawks WR is going to have an even more ridiculous season in 2026. Davenport is predicting that JSN will break the single-season receptions record, and while bold, it's not totally unrealistic.
Seahawks' Jaxon Smith-Njigba gets wild prediction that could actually happen
"Jaxon Smith-Njigba will become the first WR to catch 150 passes in a season," Davenport predicts. "With Kenneth Walker III gone and Zach Charbonnet rehabbing an ACL tear, there are significant questions facing the Seattle ground game. If the Seahawks are forced to go to the air more in 2026, most of those targets will be headed Smith-Njigba's way."
This prediction from Davenport is a bit of a wild one. JSN recording 150 receptions during the 2026 season would be a stunning result.
As good as Smith-Njigba was last season, he only caught 119 passes. He was too efficient after the catch and got open too far down the field to come close to the single-season reception record. But he did receive 163 targets, which is a lot.
However, catching 150 passes in a single season would be a stunning outcome. The current NFL record is 149 receptions, held by Michael Thomas when he was with the New Orleans Saints back in 2019.
Cooper Kupp is second-place all-time with 145 receptions with the Los Angeles Rams back in 2021.

To break this record, Smith-Njigba would need to make 31 more receptions, which comes to a little under two extra catches per-game in a 17-game season. When put that way, it's not that unrealistic that he could break the single-season reception record.
Considering the running game might be very weak, and Darnold's willingness to throw the ball, along with JSN being a great receiver, this isn't that unrealistic of a record.
This is a ridiculous prediction from Davenport, and it's fitting that it came amid seven other "Surprise" predictions for the 2026 season.
However ridiculous as it may seem, Smith-Njigba might actually have a legitimate chance to break this record.
He's used heavily in the offense, and it would not be a surprise if the new-look running gam struggled, and Darnold is forced to throw to JSN more often to move the ball. It's a bold prediction, but one that isn't actually impossible for him to set in 2026.
