One of the first things to take place in the Philadelphia 76ers’ offseason was their parting of ways with Daryl Morey, who had served as the organization’s President of Basketball Operations for six years.
The Sixers’ search has come to an end

— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) May 29, 2026This has meant that the team’s next priority would be finding Morey’s replacement, and it appears that they’ve found it. As reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Sixers have hired Mike Gansey to become the team’s new President of Basketball Operations.
The decision comes after Gansey’s name was constantly being linked to Philadelphia, with the two sides reportedly meeting earlier in the week, as previously reported by The Stein Line.
Gansey will make his move to the City of Brotherly Love, coming off a lengthy stint as the General Manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers, having been promoted to the top spot in 2022.
While there hasn’t been any word about it yet, an additional storyline in the Sixers’ new front office acquisition will be the role of Jameer Nelson, who was among the final candidates for Morey’s replacement. It was previously reported by The Stein Line, that, regardless of how the search went, Nelson, who currently serves as an assistant general manager, would see some sort of promotion.
“There is a growing expectation in league circles that Nelson will be elevated to general manager in Philadelphia at a minimum in the event he does not get the top job,” reports The Stein Line.
