Tristan Thompson is speaking out amid retirement allegations.
The former Cleveland Cavaliers star was a guest on Khloé Kardashian's Khloe in Wonder Land, where he spoke about his recent break in the NBA.
"I always tell people it feels like I'm a rookie again," Thompson told Kardashian.
"You have to figure out how you're going to pivot," he continued. "The toughest thing for anyone, but for athletes, is figuring out what's next. For athletes, the easiest transition is going into sports broadcasting because it's a way that you can still stay part of the game and just talk about what you love."
While it seemed as though Thompson taking a break from the NBA could be assumed to be his retirement, he shared that it was not the case.
Legion Hoops wrote on X, "Tristan Thompson has officially retired from basketball, per @enews," following the report from the outlet.
Thompson responded, "Fake news" and added the "cap" emoji for emphasis.
The NBA champion is known for his role as center and power forward on the Cleveland Cavaliers but has had several stints with the Boston Celtics, Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls, and Los Angeles Lakers. He was drafted into the NBA in 2011 by the Cavs and so far has played 14 seasons in the league.
Thompson is currently an unrestricted free agent, and his last stint in the league was during the 2024-2025 season with the Cavs. He has not made any additional comments sharing when or if he plans to retire in the near future.
