Seahawks get bad news on Klint Kubiak's head coach future before Super Bowl with Raiders update

Klint Kubiak has a big game still to coach for the Seattle Seahawks, the biggest.

They've got the Super Bowl coming up on Sunday, Feb. 8, to try and hoist the Lombardi Trophy against the New England Patriots. Kubiak, the offensive coordinator, will play a huge part in that.

But after that, Kubiak will be shipping out of town.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Sunday that Kubiak will be taking a deal to be the new head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders after a pair of interviews.

"No deal can be finalized until after the Super Bowl, but Klint Kubiak wants to coach the Raiders, and they want him to be their head coach,"  Schefter wrote on X. "Now it’s only a matter of time before the two sides can formalize a deal."

Kubiak had also been in the running to be the new head coach of the Arizona Cardinals.

Rather than stay in the NFC West for a team clearly worst in the division, Kubiak heads to the AFC West.

With the Raiders, Kubiak appears likely to get the chance to coach a rookie quarterback. Vegas has the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, which should turn into Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza.

Mendoza will have a top-tier tight end, Brock Bowers, but could certainly use some upgrades at wide receiver. The Raiders did draft RB Ashton Jeanty in the top-10 a year ago, so he'll be in the backfield with Mendoza.

It's an exciting hire for Las Vegas, but certainly disappointing for the Seahawks.

That's what happens with a big year, though. Seattle showed how special it can be, Kubiak got a lot of credit, and now he'll soon be on his way out.
