Seahawks cut ties with 4 players, including a quarterback in wake of Jalen Milroe pick

The Seattle Seahawks' quarterbacks room got a bit more crowded during the 2025 NFL draft when the team selected Jalen Milroe in the third round.

However, the team has since made a few moves to thin out that room. First, Seattle traded Sam Howell to the Minnesota Vikings during the draft, and now the team is waiving Jaren Hall, the Seahawks announced on Tuesday.

But that wasn't the only move the Seahawks made — Seattle also parted ways with linebacker Michael Dowell, center Michael Novitsky and outside linebacker Kenneth Odumegwu.

After failing to make the Vikings' roster in 2024, Hall was picked up by Seattle and added to the practice squad. Then, in December, Hall got called up to the active roster but didn't see any snaps.

With Hall gone, the Seahawks now have three quarterbacks on the roster with Sam Darnold, who is going to be the starter, Drew Lock and Milroe. Lock is expected to back up Darnold in 2025.

However, despite that, Milroe could still see the field in 2025 with his own package of plays, but that will depend upon the team's desire to have three quarterbacks active on gamedays.

"He's a unique, special athlete, special young man," general manager John Schneider said of Milroe, per ESPN's Brady Henderson. "We're going to develop him as a quarterback. But with that, he can add something special as we go."

"You've got to look at it through the lens of the things we talked about when we first hired [offensive coordinator] Klint [Kubiak]," said coach Mike Macdonald. "One of the reasons we hired him was his ability to incorporate the whole roster and really bring out what everybody does really well. Adding Jalen is a part of that."

Milroe can increase his chances of seeing the field if he can win the backup job over Lock, but that is not something we're expecting him to do in Year 1.
