Seahawks accomplish feat vs. Rams never done before in NFL history

The Seattle Seahawks' Week 16 victory over the Los Angeles Rams was historic for a few reasons.

The Seahawks trailed the Rams by two scores in the fourth quarter but managed to tie the game up to send it into overtime after mounting an unreal comeback.

After falling behind again in the extra frame, the Seahawks matched the Rams' touchdown and pulled off a successful two-point conversion to seal the deal.

According to ESPN research, the Seahawks are the first team in NFL history to win an overtime game with a two-point conversion.

It's obviously not surprising that's the case, though, as the league just moved to the rule that both teams get an overtime possession during the regular season this year. That rule was first applied to playoff games in 2022.

In their loss to the Seahawks, the Rams also made NFL history, becoming the first team since at least 1975 to total 400 yards of offense, zero sacks allowed, zero turnovers and three-plus takeaways and still lose.

With the victory, the Seahawks move into first place in the NFC West and into the No. 1 seed in the conference for now, while also clinching a playoff berth.

Meanwhile, the Rams fall to second place in the division and into the No. 5 spot in the conference. Los Angeles clinched its playoff berth last week.

All that said, this is still a three-team race for both top spots, as the San Francisco 49ers are still very much in the thick of things, as are the Chicago Bears.

If the Seahawks win next week and the 49ers win each of their next two games, that would set up a winner-take-all situation for the division and top seed in the Week 18 meeting between San Francisco and Seattle.
