A scientist was murdered in front of his fiancée during their Puerto Rico vacation when a gang of masked men armed with AR-15s shot up their car, according to reports.

DuPont chemist Omar Padilla Vélez, 33, and his wife-to-be Kelly Crispin, 31, were heading back to his family’s home just before 2 a.m. on Jan. 3 when their car was shot as he turned onto a road he mistakenly thought was a highway, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

“I’ve been shot,” Vélez said after gunshots ripped through their vehicle.

The Philadelphia couple, who met three years ago, had been partying in San Juan only moments before the horror unfolded.

Padilla Vélez died from a stroke days after being shot in the head.

“He told me that he loved me, and I told him that I loved him, too,” Crispin told the Inquirer of her partner’s final words.

“And he said, ‘I’m so sorry.’ Then he fell asleep.”

Gang members allegedly took Crispin’s cell phone and purse before giving them back to her.

Cops have not made any arrests.
