After LeBron James' departure, all eyes were on Austin Reaves and Luka Doncic to spearhead the Los Angeles Lakers' offense. They have the skill set to do so, but a lot of people were still hesitant to be hyped about the Lakers.
With the preseason games and training camp, the Lakers seem to be clicking on offense. That mostly comes from Reaves and Doncic making a difference as the primary options and playmakers for the team.
Sandro Mamukelashvili raves about Austin Reaves and Luka Doncic's offense
During the 2025-26 season, both Reaves and Doncic had superb individual seasons. Reaves was averaging 23.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game, while Doncic was posting 33.5 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 8.3 assists a night.
Those numbers prove that they are impressive players for the Lakers, and it could get even better because they only have to share as a duo and not a trio with LeBron.

As one of the core role players for the Lakers, Sandro Mamukelashvili seems to be one of the players who will regularly play with the backcourt. He will benefit from the open space he can work with and the passes he will receive.
"It’s plenty of them. I think there will be even more. When Luka has the ball, you see everybody’s on their toes defensively, but he's such a good ball-handler. He controls the game; he's got his own pace. All you have to do is just stay there, and he's going to find you," Mamukelashvili said about playing with the Lakers' backcourt.
"Same goes with Austin. Everybody has been moving the ball amazingly. We’ve been doing extra passes; we drive and kick; nobody tries to hold it for too long."
With that level of teammates, it is easy to see why players like Mamukelashvili will enjoy playing for the Lakers. They will have playmakers who set the table well for them, and all they have to do is hit their shots.
