San Francisco Giants trade proposal would bring in young All-Star infielder to pair with Matt Chapman

With Opening Day here, we shouldn’t see many trades for at least a few weeks, but MLB has shown us that things can get crazy, so nothing should be counted out.

However, Washington Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams has been viewed as a potential trade candidate in the spring and winter, and a team like the San Francisco Giants could be an ideal landing spot. FanSided’s Mark Powell proposed a deal involving the two, adding that while the Giants have had interest, it could wait until the deadline.

“CJ Abrams has been floated in trade rumors all winter long. I don't really get it, but I'm not the Washington Nationals front office. Abrams is just 25 years old and has a few years left on his contract. By all accounts, Abrams is an excellent teammate, and a player on the rise who plays a demanding shortstop position…

“A trade could be in Abrams future, if not now then definitely at the deadline. There are plenty of teams that could come knocking, including San Francisco Giants, who tried to trade for him this winter,” he wrote.

Adding a player like Abrams would give the Giants one of the best infielders in baseball, but it remains uncertain if Washington wants to go in that direction.

Abrams is still young and cheap, which makes him valuable for a team in as bad of a spot as the Nationals. Despite that reality, some have suggested that they could move on from Abrams and others.
