San Francisco 49ers make major decision regarding Mac Jones

1 hour ago 2

There has been ample speculation regarding what the San Francisco 49ers will do with backup quarterback Mac Jones over the offseason.

Some have suggested that the Niners could look to flip Jones for a return prior to the NFL Draft, as other teams out there could potentially be interested in him as a starting quarterback. However, it doesn’t sound like that will be the case.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, San Francisco plans to keep Jones around and bring him back as Brock Purdy’s backup again next season. Jones still has one year remaining on his current contract with the Niners.

From ESPN:

Despite continued speculation, the San Francisco 49ers have no plans to trade quarterback Mac Jones this offseason and fully intend to bring him back as Brock Purdy's backup, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Sunday.

In an ever-uncertain quarterback landscape, Jones has been a potential offseason trade target for teams in need of a starter. But at least for now, the Niners don't plan to part with Jones, who is under contract for another year at a salary cap number of $3.07 million.
