Sam Darnold led the Seattle Seahawks to a dominant 38-14 victory over the Washington Commanders on Sunday night. The quarterback, who was acquired as a free agent during the offseason in a three-year deal worth $100.5 million, has been fantastic for the team in 2025.
Darnold completed 21 of 24 passes for 330 yards and four touchdowns to elevate the Seahawks to a 6-2 record. It was the fourth game this season that the quarterback has thrown for at least 295 yards, and also the second game in which he's thrown four touchdowns.
Sam Darnold’s fiancée, Katie Hoognagle, was overwhelmed with a lot of emotions after the quarterback’s latest outstanding performance. In her Instagram story on Sunday, she reposted a post made by the Seattle Seahawks, featuring Darnold and a series of fans’ reactions to his performance.

Hoognagle, who was present at the Northwest Stadium in Washington D.C. on Sunday, also posted one of the explosive plays of the quarterback on her Instagram story. In the clip, Darnold connected with Tory Horton from 25 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter to extend the lead to 13-0.
Darnold and Hoognagle have been known to be in a romantic relationship since June 2023, after she posted a series of photos on Instagram on the quarterback's birthday. She's been one of Darnold's strongest supporters since then, and often posts a photo of them together.
Sam Darnold refuses to take credit for the Week 9 win
Despite the lots of praise from several quarters, including his fiancée, for the outstanding performance, Sam Darnold didn't take credit for the win on Sunday. In his postgame press conference, the quarterback commended how the entire team carried themselves in the encounter.
“Obviously, a great all-around game from our defense and special teams,” Darnold said. “As an offense, I feel like in the first half, we just put good drives together. We're a lot better on third down today than we had been the last couple of weeks. “…I felt like we know how good of a team they have on the other side of the ball. And the way that we came out with a sense of urgency on offense, defense, you felt it right from the get. And we're just excited to be able to get that win.”Following his series of impressive performances, Sam Darnold is currently one of the frontrunners for the NFL MVP. While he has Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Drake Maye and Matthew Stafford ahead of him according to the betting odds, he could climb up the ladder with consistency.
