The New Orleans Saints entered the 2026 NFL offseason with a clear goal of improving the offense around Tyler Shough entering his sophomore season in the NFL.
They've done just that, signing David Edwards to play left guard and running back Travis Etienne Jr. to be the new starting running back. But of these two signings, the Etienne addition is a lot more intriguing, and not just because he's a running back.
As Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football shared on Twitter/x, Etienne has a son named after his new team, and the team he grew up cheering for. This is an incredible coincidence, and makes this fit seem a whole lot better as well.
Travis Etienne Jr. named his son after the Saints
"A fact that seems relevant... Travis Etienne has a son named Saint," Underhill shared. The Saints have signed a running back who has a son named Saint. A free agent match doesn't get much better than that.
Etienne naming his son Saint makes sense. He grew up in Jennings, Louisiana, and he was a fan of the Saints franchise growing up as well. He went to college at Clemson, but his roots are in Louisiana.
The 27-year-old running back is coming off a few strong seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He had 1,107 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 260 attempts last year to go with 292 receiving yards and six touchdowns as a receiver.

In his four-year NFL career, after missing his entire rookie season due to injury, Etienne has put up 3,798 rushing yards with 25 touchdowns on 897 attempts with 1,338 receiving yards and seven touchdowns on 168 receptions.
It's been a productive career for Etienne so far, and now he's coming to the Saints, his favorite team growing up, and also the team with the same name as his son.
This fit between Etienne and the Saints is already looking strong, as Kellen Moore and Shough have found their new lead back going forward.
