Saints get good news on pair of ascending offensive coaches after Steelers interviews

The New Orleans Saints are finally turning the corner, and a huge reason is the progress the offense showed this season.

While Kellen Moore and Tyler Shough were big reasons why things turned around, there are other players, and especially coaches, who played a big role in the development of the offense in 2026.

Quarterbacks coach Scott Tolzien and tight ends coach Chase Haslett, two ascending offensive minds in the NFL, both had interviews with the Pittsburgh Steelers for promotions. But the Saints got some good news on both fronts from NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Saints get good news on pair of ascending offensive coaches

"Sources: Saints QBs coach Scott Tolzein plans to remain in New Orleans after interviewing for the Steelers OC job," Schultz reports. "He was viewed as a top candidate for the job, but will remain with Kellen Moore to continue developing Tyler Shough."

Of the two returning coaches, Tolzein coming back to New Orleans is the much bigger piece of news. Having the quarterbacks coach who helped Shough turn into what could be the future of the franchise is massive.

While Tolzein isn't the sole reason for Shough's development, he likely played a significant enough role that losing him would've been a tough blow for the saints.

But, instead, he's staying in New Orleans. And whether it was in response to Tolzein not taking the Steelers job or not, the tight end coach, Haslsett, is also coming back to New Orleans.

"I'm told it was Haslett's decision," Schultz reported. "A fast-rising coach to watch moving forward in upcoming cycles."

Haslett might not be as impactful as Tolzein when it comes to Shough's development, but the play from the tight end position for the Saints last year was huge.

Juwan Johnson was great, while Taysom Hill and others also factored into the offense in a big way this season.

Seeing both Tolzein (offensive coordinator) and Haslett (TE's coach/passing game coordinator) turn down the Steelers' promotions to stick in New Orleans is a very good sign.

Not only does it indicate that there's trust in what the saints are building, but that they believe another good year is in store, which could lead to an even better promotion.
