Sabres reveal how beer has led to their special season

The Buffalo Sabres' season makes pretty much no sense.

What can it possibly be credited to? Apparently, beer is as good a place to start as any.

Sabres star defenseman Rasmus Dahlin shared with reporters on Saturday that he and his teammates stick up for each other better this season because their brotherhood has gotten stronger.

How'd they strengthen brotherhood?

"Drink beers," Dahlin said.

Fair enough. Clearly it worked.

There's certainly more to it than that, but a magical run like this requires more than just on-ice explanation.

The Sabres entered this season having missed the playoffs for 14 years in a row.

Then they started this year poorly. It's not like they shot right out of the gate on fire.

On December ninth, the Sabres were 11-14-2.

They hit 40 wins before they hit 20 losses.

It'd be almost impossible for a team viewed before the year as a title contender.

For the Sabres? Yeah, right.

Except that's exactly what's happened. They're a united group that keeps finding ways to win up and down the lineup.

Clearly, something about their approach has worked. Lindy Ruff has his squad playing well, and they've bonded in a way that allows them to keep getting the job done.

At this point, they're contenders themselves. They've got a chance to give themselves a reason to say 'cheers' if they can keep the wins rolling.
