Russell Wilson ditches Jets QB job offer for CBS Sports TV gig

The New York Jets, after trading for Geno Smith and then drafting Cade Klubnik, were looking to add a third quarterback to the mix.

Ideally, the Jets would add a veteran, and 10-time former Pro Bowler Russell Wilson was an obvious choice. The two sides have been in contact, and there is an offer on the table.

But, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Wilson has made his decision, which has him taking the CBS Sports TV gig over signing with the Jets.

Russell Wilson turns down Jets for CBS Sports TV gig

"Sources: Ten-time Pro-Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson is finalizing a deal to become a CBS Sports analyst," Schefter reports.

Despite having an offer from the Jets to return to the NFL for one more season and act as the backup to Geno Smith for a year, Wilson has decided to leave the NFL for CBS Sports.

Wilson will join the CBS Sports pregame show alongside James Brown, Nate Burleson, and Bill Cowher, according to Schefter.

While he's not necessarily retiring right away, as he could still return to the league, like what Phillip Rivers did with the Indianapolis Colts this past season, Wilson has decided to accept a job at CBS Sports over the Jets' contract offer.

Now, the Jets will have to explore other quarterback options, with the trade market being their best bet to land someone of note as a backup quarterback.

But that doesn't change that Wilson ditched the Jets to join CBS Sports. He had a chance to play in the NFL with the Jets, but is now putting his NFL career behind him, landing a TV deal in what might be the beginning of his post-NFL career.
