The Kansas City Royals need a major overhaul of their outfield. While they missed out on the big stars, there are still solid free agents out there.
Fansided’s Christopher Kline predicts the Royals will choose a former Gold Glover, and sign Harrison Bader. Bader did it all last year, and would come at a cost-effective price.
“Harrison Bader was basically a five-tool star for Philadelphia after the trade deadline, but history tells us we can not expect a repeat of that productivity next season. Still, Bader brings helpful spunk to any team, and he offers a reasonably high floor as a Gold Glove-caliber defender in center field. No team needs more juice in the outfield than the Kansas City Royals. The Bellinger dream died a long time ago, but Bader can elevate the back half of the lineup with speed and occasional pop,” Kline wrote.
Bader finished 2025 slashing .277/.347/.449/.796 with 24 doubles, 17 homeruns, and 54 RBI in 146 games played. He also played even better after the trade deadline when he was dealt from the Minnesota Twins to the Philadelphia Phillies, where hit .305/.361/.463/.824.
His bat would be a major upgrade over MJ Melendez, as Kyle Isbel would be pushed to left field and his Gold Glove would play well in Kansas City’s large outfield. He’d also be cheap, with a projected contract of two-years, $20 million.
Hopefully, the Royals realize this is probably the best upgrade that they can make at this point of the offseason, and contact Bader’s camp ASAP.
