It's the anniversary of Klay Thompson having best quarter in NBA history for Warriors

1 hour ago 3

Klay Thompson has always been one of those dudes who can catch fire at a moment's notice.

Never more so than on Jan. 23, 2015 when the Golden State Warriors were just starting to really announce their prodigious potential to the rest of the NBA.

That night, the Warriors were playing at home against the Sacramento Kings.

And to say Thompson caught fire would be selling him well short.

That night, in the third quarter, Thompson became the sun.

He scored 37 points in the quarter, an NBA record for any frame.

That's 37 points in less than 12 minutes once Thompson actually got his first shot to fall through.

He took 13 shots from the field and made them all.

Nine of those shots were from 3-point range, so yep, he made all of those.

Thompson got to the line just on one trip, for two shots, and made both.

And he even threw down an alley-oop dunk on a lob from Stephen Curry.

11 years ago today, KLAY THOMPSON had one of the greatest quarters in NBA history🔥

37 PTS (NBA record)
13/13 FG (ties NBA record)
9/9 3PT (NBA record)
2/2 FT
1/1 ALLEY-OOP DUNK
Outscored the Kings 37-22

52 PTS, 11 3PT, 5 AST, 4 STL, 2 BLK

Could this ever happen again?

Technically, sure.

But the odds are so, so slim.

No one has ever scored 36, or 35, or 34 points in a quarter. The previous record was 33. Thompson stands well by himself.

If someone had to guess a guy who could've broken this in his prime, Curry may actually have been the best guess. Even he might be too old to do it now.

Thompson's immaculately spotless quarter will always be one of the most impressive feats in the history of basketball.
