Rory McIlroy picks up another accolade after BBC award

Following his win as the BBC Sports Personality of the Year, Rory McIlroy has received yet another accolade. The ace Northern Irish golfer has received the RTE Sport Sportsperson of the Year award for his impressive season.

Rory McIlroy had an incredible year, winning three titles on the PGA Tour, including the Masters Tournament, where he completed his career grand slam and ended his eleven-year major drought. He also won on the DP World Tour and claimed the Race to Dubai rankings. Besides, he played a significant role in Europe's successful retention of the Ryder Cup 2025 at Bethpage Black.

This is the second time Rory McIlroy has won the RTE Sport Sportsperson of the Year. For the uninitiated, he also claimed the Irish national broadcaster's title in 2014.

A few days ago, McIlroy also won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year for the first time. Interestingly, he had never won this award before, and he is the first golfer since Nick Faldo in 1989 to win it.

Speaking of the other awards, swimmer John Shortt won the Young Sportsperson of the Year, Kerry was named the Team of the Year, and Shamrock Rovers manager Stephen Bradley received the Manager of the Year. Irish rugby veteran Ciaran Fitzgerald was inducted into the RTE Sport Hall of Fame.
