South Africa beat Team India by 30 runs in the first Test on Sunday (November 16) at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. With this, South Africa ended their 15-year wait for a Test win on Indian soil. The visitors also took a 1-0 lead in the Two-match series.

The Proteas commenced with an overnight score of 93/7 in their second innings, with Temba Bavuma and Corbin Bosch at the crease. They frustrated the Indian bowlers with a 44-run partnership to help South Africa swell the lead past 100.

Temba Bavuma (55*) led them from the front by hitting a responsible half-century, the only player to do so in the match. His brilliant effort helped South Africa reach 153 and set a 124-run target. Ravindra Jadeja picked up four wickets, while Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav picked up two wickets for India in the third innings.

South Africa off-spinner Simon Harmer (4/21) bowled magnificently in the final innings and helped South Africa bundle out the opposition team for 93 and win the match. Washington Sundar top-scored for the hosts with a fighting knock of 31 (92) on a disappointing day.

At the post-match presentation, South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma reflected on the win, saying:

"I think you want to be part of games like these and come out on the right side. The guys held on to their nerves and our bowling was just superb! nand of course, that partnership I had with Corbin Bosch was important. I think the wicket played a bit better this morning, but it was a case of staying in the game."

He continued:

"You are only as good as your players. But from a batting point of view, I just kept things simple. I wanted to come here and do well, I don't have the best of records, so, it was crucial that I contribute and change that. Awareness was key, and adapting to the conditions was the thing. You don't want to leave them to someone else, you want to do it yourself!"

The second Test will begin on November 22 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
