The Colorado Rockies have made a really unique free agent signing.
On Monday, they reached a free agent deal with catcher/infielder Jack O'Dowd. He's the son of former Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd.
MLB.com's Thomas Harding reported the signing.
O'Dowd hasn't traveled a normal path.
He spent this past season playing in the independent Pioneer League for the Billings Mustangs.
With Billings, he set single-season home run and RBI records.
O'Dowd batted .333 with 22 home runs and 91 RBIs.

He split his college career between the University of Texas and Vanderbilt, but he wasn't drafted.
The 24-year old who bats from the left side spent time in the high-profile summer leagues at Cape Cod and the Northwoods. But his overall production didn't earn him a draft selection.
He finished his college career in 2024, then hit .306 in the MLB Draft League, but that didn't get him picked.
O'Dowd had to prove himself in indy ball, and he did, with a 1.091 OPS.
Now, O'Dowd is in an organization that will be very familiar for his family. He'll get a chance to prove himself in the minor leagues and see if he can eventually ascend to Coors Field.
