Rockies, 3-time batting champion Luis Arraez get free agent update

Luis Arraez, in a different era, would get a huge contract.

He's a three-time batting champion, after all.

But the San Diego Padres' free agent doesn't do much else well other than make contact and hit singles. And so in this era, it's not quite the same thing.

There's one ballpark that it'd be fun to see Arraez in, though: Coors Field.

So maybe he should sign with the Colorado Rockies.

That's what MLB.com's Andrew Simon has called the "perfect fit" in a new article.

"We all want to see this, right?" Simon writes. "Coors Field is the best park in baseball for singles, by far. (It’s nearly the best for doubles, too.) And Arraez is the singles master. There would be entertainment value to seeing how that translated over 81 games there. The Rockies could use some guys who can put the bat on the ball after striking out more than any team besides the Angels in 2025, and Arraez does that better than anyone. While Colorado’s new-look front office does need to focus on building the next good Rockies team -- and Arraez likely wouldn’t be around for that -- there would be little harm in bringing him in on a short-term deal, with the chance to flip him for prospect capital if things go well."

There are just so many hits to be had in a huge outfield in Coors.

Arraez would also be a bright spot for a team without a lot of reasons to smile yet.

Colorado wants to start down the right path. Arraez wouldn't necessarily be there when the turnaround is complete, but he could play a role in getting it started.
