Fred VanVleet’s second season with the Houston Rockets was a success.
The NBA champion guard averaged 14.1 points, 5.6 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game this season, shooting 37.8% from the field and 34.5% three-point shooting on a Rockets squad that earned the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference.
On Wednesday, VanVleet received a pivotal $50 million contract update following the organization's blockbuster trade for Kevin Durant.
“Houston Rockets guard Fred VanVleet intends to sign a two-year, $50 million contract to stay with the franchise, with a player option in 2026-27,” ESPN’s Shams Charania wrote Wednesday.
“Rockets are declining VanVleet's $44.9 million team option and land the new deal with Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul.”
“VanVleet played a key role on the No. 2-seed Rockets last season. He ranked seventh in assist-to-turnover ratio, per ESPN Research, and has averaged 35 minutes in each of the last six seasons.”

VanVleet is the perfect veteran guard for the Rockets. As an experienced veteran who secured a title alongside Kawhi Leonard with the Toronto Raptors, the Wichita State product comprehends what it takes to take a positive step toward contention.
From serving as a leader to making pivotal jumpers when points were hard to come by, VanVleet did his part to help Houston reach the postseason following a 41-41 campaign last year.
With Durant in the fold, VanVleet should feel confident about the Rockets’ chances of going further in the postseason in 2025-26.
