Sabres GM Kevyn Adams blasts "disinformation" attempts against his team

The Buffalo Sabres clearly did not appreciate the rumor that was spreading in online circles about their alleged desire to buy out the remaining contract of defenseman Mattias Samuelsson.

General manager Kevyn Adams pushed back on the notion of a contract buy out for Samuelsson, calling any reports to the contrary "misinformation" while also saying he felt bad for Sabres fans who may have believed the erroneous reports.

“I feel bad for our fans,” he said. “There’s so much misinformation. It’s nonsense. Someone that has no idea what they’re talking about reporting that we’re gonna buy [Samuelsson] out. We’ve never had that conversation once.”

Samuelsson has five seasons remaining on his current deal that carries a $4,285,714 cap hit. If the Sabres did ultimately decide to buy out the remaining time left on his deal, it would cost them $714,286 against the salary cap until 2035.

Amidst the drama surrounding the reported attempted trade of forward J.J. Peterka, Adams said that it's his job to make sure all the players in the Buffalo dressing room believe in what they're doing and can say that they're "excited" to be members of the team.

“I think it’s important to have people in your organization, players, coaches, staff who believe in what you’re doing and want to be here for the right reason,” Adams said. “I’m sure I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again: Paying someone more money hoping that will make them happy isn’t usually a recipe for success. You have to have players who buy into and believe in what you’re doing and wake up every day in Buffalo excited to be a Sabre. I think that’s important."

The Sabres have not played beyond the 82nd game of the regular season since the spring of 2011, as they were eliminated in the opening round of the Eastern Conference Quarter Finals by the Philadelphia Flyers.
