Patrick Kane needed one more point to stand alone atop the American hockey record book. Thursday night, he got it and made history.

The 37-year-old Red Wings forward became the NHL’s all-time leading scorer among U.S.-born players by recording his 1,375th career point against the Washington Capitals, passing Hall of Famer Mike Modano’s mark of 1,374. He entered Thursday's game tied with Modano after notching point No. 1,374 on an assist against the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday.
