Cooper Flagg breaks Mavericks rookie record in historic performance

Nineteen-year-old rookie Cooper Flagg made history Thursday night. With a basket at the 4:10 mark of the fourth quarter, Flagg recorded his 44th point, setting a Mavericks rookie record for most points in a single game.

The previous record of 42 points was shared by Mark Aguirre, whose jersey was retired earlier in the night, and Flagg himself. On the season, Flagg averages around 18–19 points, 6–6.5 rebounds, and 4 assists per game as a 19-year-old rookie, a statistical line matched by only a handful of rookies in league history when paired with roughly .550 true shooting.

He has certainly made a strong case for the NBA Rookie of the Year award, with many sources naming him the clear favorite. The Duke product was the No. 1 draft pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and is now playing for the Mavericks.
