The Boston Red Sox swept the AL East rival New York Yankees in a four-game series in Boston, which was a huge boost of confidence for the franchise amid a lost season.
Of course, even after that sweep, the Red Sox are still 4.5 games out of a Wild Card spot, and 12 games out of the AL East title. However, if there was a series to instill confidence, it would be that four-game sweep of the Yankees.
However, MLB insider Robert Murray for Fansided.com is urging the Red Sox not to believe in that sweep being for-real, and instead make the disappointing trade deadline decision to sell this summer by the August 3 deadline.
Red Sox still urged to sell despite sweeping Yankees
"After sweeping the New York Yankees at Fenway Park over the weekend, a question has been posed to me a few times: Should the Boston Red Sox maybe buy, not sell, ahead of the Aug. 3 trade deadline? The answer is no. At least, for now," Murray writes.
As tempting as it might be to buy into the Red Sox after this four-game sweep of the Yankees, it's only one series, and it doesn't define the Red Sox this season.
Overall, the offense remains incredibly lackluster, as Roman Anthony and Garrett Crochet are still injured, and there is considerable interest in their trade value.
It would make more sense for the future of the franchise to sell this summer, parting with players like Sonny Gray, Aroldis Chapman, and Jarren Duran if they can get solid returns in what's likely a seller's market.
While the starting pitching staff for the Red Sox has been great, even without Crochet, this roster isn't good enough as it currently stands, even if they get some help, to be a World Series contender.

A weak American League might make things seem a bit better than they are for the Red Sox. This team isn't good, even though they swept the Yankees.
At least, that's the perspective of Murray. It's not the wrong idea, though it is a bit disappointing. Seeing Boston sell even after such a great series would be a sign of how bad things have gone this season.
There's still over a month until the deadline, so a lot could change in the next 30 or so days. Maybe the Red Sox keep winning and climb back into contention, or maybe they falter once more.
Regardless, this one series shouldn't decide their deadline plans, as too much hinges upon what the team does this summer to rely on one four-game sweep to make their trade deadline decision.
