The Boston Red Sox are in last place in the AL East and are 13.5 games out of first in the division. While only 5.5 games out of a Wild Card spot, this season has been a disaster.
If things don't turn around soon, it would not be a surprise if the Red Sox were sellers by the August 3 trade deadline. With such a disappointing roster, it's no surprise that Craig Breslow has been questioned over his job security.
However, during an appearance on WEEI, Red Sox president and CEO Sam Kennedy defended Breslow, indicating that the one responsible for this lackluster roster has a safe job despite how the season's gone.
Red Sox president and CEO defends Craig Breslow's job
"I fully understand the questions about Craig Breslow and his job security and all of that, but the issue of change there, just to be clear, is not on the table," Kennedy said. "He is working as hard as anyone to get things back on track."
This quote from Kennedy is clearly giving Breslow a vote of confidence, and if nothing else, it is indicating his job is at risk right now.
While the issues this season aren't just about roster construction, with the injuries to Roman Anthony and Garrett Crochet playing a big part in the disappointing 2026 season, Breslow's mistakes have drastically hurt this team.

The Caleb Durbin trade is a fireable offense, as sending Kyle Harrison and Shane Drohan for a return that is replacement level at-best has been a disaster.
Breslow's mishandling of the Alex Bregman and Rafael Devers situations has been terrible for the franchise as well. This roster is not good enough, and it's fair to wonder if Breslow should still have his job.
But Kennedy is backing Breslow, and it's apparent that the Red Sox are standing by the one who built this lackluster roster. Breslow's job appears safe, and he will be tasked with figuring out what to do at this year's trade deadline.
