Victor Wembanyama egged by Knicks fans at team hotel after historic NBA Finals collapse

1 hour ago 3

The New York Knicks are one win away from basketball immortality, so Knicks fans are excited beyond their imagination.

However, that excitement has occasionally crossed the line, which happened again on Wednesday night.

From the moment San Antonio left Madison Square Garden after blowing a 29-point lead in Game 4, the Spurs had to deal with a rabid group of Knicks fans in New York City. One fan, though, decided to egg Spurs star Victor Wembanyama from the crowd.

Fortunately, it appears that Wembanyama wasn't harmed in the incident, but it still demonstrates the challenge that the Spurs have in playing on the road in New York. The Spurs will be happy that Game 5 will take place back in San Antonio as they hope to regain momentum and start a 3-1 comeback.

Here's what happened on Wednesday night.

Victor Wembanyama egged by Knicks fans

When the Spurs went back to their hotel after Game 4, Knicks fans were there to greet the team with a chorus of heckling. One fan, though, crossed the line when he threw an egg at Wembanyama, as the egg appeared to explode near Wembanyama.

Here's another angle of the incident, showing the Spurs star duck as the egg made impact in his vicinity. It's not totally clear if the egg made contact with Wembanyama or one of the street signs located near the entrance.

Knicks fans have been predictably hostile towards Wembanyama all series long, since New Yorkers haven't experienced an NBA Finals in 27 years.

Wembanyama has done a great job blocking out the noise in his young NBA career, but this is a different level of challenge that he has experienced. The Spurs center is firmly public enemy No. 1 in these NBA Finals, so he will surely welcome returning to San Antonio on Saturday night.
