Red Sox predicted to make strange Aroldis Chapman decision after Yankees comments

Aroldis Chapman's future with the Boston Red Sox seems to be up in the air, and rightfully so.

The big left-hander is nearly 40 years old and doesn't necessarily fit one of the worst teams in baseball. It's unfortunate that the Red Sox have played this way this season, but there's still a possibility they can turn things around and become a wild-card team.

We've seen crazier happen, and with the boatload of talent they have on both sides of the baseball, there's really no reason why that can't end up being the case.

It's tough to say that moving on from Chapman, mainly due to those realities, would make a whole lot of sense for the Red Sox. He's also under contract for next season, so if the hope is to contend next year, keeping him around would make a lot of sense.

That's part of why one writer believes keeping him in Boston will be the outcome.

“Another star on a bad team. Chapman arguably is the best closer in baseball right now. He has a 0.46 ERA in 20 appearances for the Red Sox. The Red Sox, like Detroit, is 11 games under .500. The club has made it clear that they are trying to add pieces and not subtract. But with each loss that stacks up, that could change,” Patrick McAvoy of SI wrote.

I think it's a better idea to move on from Chapman now and try to get the best possible return.

The Red Sox can definitely get a few above-average prospects for his services, though I can understand why they think they might have a chance to make the postseason and look to keep him.
