Red Sox insider urges Boston to pursue reunion with 2021 playoff hero over targeting Pete Alonso

The Boston Red Sox need a few major things this offseason to consider it a success; one of those things is a slugger to hit home runs for them. Luckily for them, this free agent class is loaded with them.

While Pete Alonso might be peoples’ go-to, MassLive’s Sean McAdam believes the Red Sox should instead target a former Boston player in Kyle Schwarber.

“But the Red Sox also need to add some power, and there’s a very obvious solution available on the free agent market and it’s not Pete Alonso. The Red Sox should do everything they can to sign Kyle Schwarber,” McAdam wrote.

McAdam continued, stating that Schwarber is the second-best DH in the MLB, and can be a powerful presence in the clubhouse.

“Landing Schwarber would give the Red Sox the game’s second-best DH (after Shohei Ohtani) in the game, someone with both on-base ability and power who could hit in any one of the first four spots in the lineup. He would also give them a powerful clubhouse presence, which could prove especially important if Bregman goes elsewhere,” McAdam noted.

However, Schwarber has a high strikeout rate, and he’s going to command a very large contract. However, it’s worth it due to the fact he hit 56 homers and 132 RBI last season, which no Sox player even came close to.

Hopefully, the Sox get right on with reunion talks, and find the slugger they need to finally get their 10th World Series title.
