The Boston Red Sox are still seeking a permanent first base solution.
It doesn't seem like DH Rafael Devers will be the answer.
That brings up the idea of making a trade. USA Today's Bob Nightengale has a suggestion in his new column out Sunday:
"If the Boston Red Sox are still looking for a first baseman at the trade deadline, Rhys Hoskins of the Milwaukee Brewers could be the perfect fit. Hoskins, a free agent after the season, will be available if the Brewers aren’t in the playoff hunt."
Hoskins is a 32-year old who is in his eighth healthy season in the big leagues.
He spent the first six years of his career with the Phillies and has played the last two with the Brewers.

So far this season, Hoskins is batting .285 with five home runs. That would be the highest average of his career if it holds up for the whole season.
In his career, Hoskins is a .240 hitter with 179 home runs.
His contract includes a mutual option for the 2026 season, although Nightengale implies Hoskins wouldn't be expected to stay on board through that.
The Red Sox don't need a long-term solution, assuming Triston Casas eventually returns to health. But they could benefit from a guy like Hoskins down the stretch.
