The Boston Red Sox began the year on a terrible note, firing Alex Cora very early in the season. But the Chad Tracy era didn't exactly start great either. It was a rough start to the season.
However, the Red Sox have been on an absolute tear recently, owning baseball's best record looking back over a month ago. They've been incredible, and are right back in the thick of the postseason and AL East hunt.
ESPN's Bradford Doolittle handed out updated odds for the Red Sox, and alongside their over 70% jump in playoff odds, they've now gotten 8.2% chance to win the World Series, a few points ahead of the New York Yankees' odds to win it all this year.
Red Sox have better World Series odds than Yankees
Doolittle shared that the Red Sox have the following odds to win a World Series: "Champions: 8.2% (Last: 0.5%)."
They have also gone from just a 20.9% chance of making the postseason to being all the way at 97.8% of making it there this season after just a month's difference.
But, most notably, the Red Sox have a slightly higher chance of winning the World Series than the Yankees, whom Doolittle has given a 7.6% chance of winning the World Series.
While the Yankees might have a slightly higher chance of making the playoffs at 98.5%, the Red Sox, if they can get there, would have a better chance of winning it all.
MORE: Red Sox expected to trade Jarren Duran during offseason, not MLB trade deadline
This team is on one of the all-time heaters in MLB history, going from clear-cut sellers at the deadline and a team at the bottom of a lousy American League, to a club on the cusp of taking over the No. 1 seed in the whole conference.
It's been an absolutely incredible turnaround, and they almost quadrupled their playoff odds over the last month.
But, as a further indicator of this positive change, their World Series odds are higher than those of their rival Yankees. 8.2% for Boston, 7.6% for New York.
That's an incredible change for the Red Sox, especially considering they seemed out of it a little over a month ago.
