Astros playoff odds according to ESPN have more than doubled in last month

The Houston Astros, at one point this season, looked like a team that might end up selling at the MLB trade deadline. It was bad enough that Jeremy Pena, Josh Hader, and even Yordan Alvarez and Hunter Brown were being mentioned in trade rumors.

Of course, they've since turned things around, and none of those players were dealt. In fact, the Astros were buyers, adding Daulton Varsho, the former Gold Glove left-handed outfielder, to the team at this year's deadline.

Following said deadline, ESPN's Bradford Doolittle shared updated odds for each team to make the postseason. For the Astros, they more than doubled their odds from the start of July, going from under 32% all of the way up to 66% after the deadline.

"11. Houston Astros. Win average: 83.4 (Last: 79.8, 17th). In the playoffs (66.0% (Last: 31.9%). Champions: 3.4% (Last: 0.6%)," Doolittle shared.

This is some wild change for the Astros, as they've gone from a team well on the outside to being the favorite to come out of the AL West.

Next on Doolittle's list are the Texas Rangers, who own just a 38.0% playoff chance, with the Seattle Mariners not too far behind at 32.2% chance of making the playoffs.

It's been an incredible last month or so for the Astros, as they've climbed back atop the AL West with a 59-57 record, only losing three of their last 15 games.

The Astros don't have an insurmountable lead over the competition, being just 1.5 games up on the Rangers and 3.0 up on the Mariners. But, they're still in a good position to win the division.

Doolittle has them as the most-likely team from the AL West to make the postseason, which, if Astros fans were told that a little over a month ago, they'd have a hard time believing that.

It's been an incredible resurgence for the Astros, and while there are certainly questions about how good this team actually is, there's no denying that this team has played well enough lately to have a legitimately good chance of making the postseason.
