The Boston Red Sox are hoping that Masataka Yoshida can play a bigger role in 2026, and based on his recent comments, the outfielder understands what’s at stake.
Amid an up-and-down stretch since arriving in Boston, Yoshida’s biggest problem has been his lack of ability in staying on he field.
For the Red Sox, being on the field is just as important as anything else. While injuries have slowed Yoshida at times, entering this season, he sounds confident in where his game stands physically. That alone should make a difference.
Yoshida said that he’s focused on delivering at a high level and building off what he showed on the international stage.
“For me, I wanted to bring out my peak performance during the WBC. And I think just comes down to kind of maintain that going into the season,” said Yoshida, per the Boston Globe. “I think everything’s going as planned. I’m healthy, so I think I’m ready to show what I can do.”
Alex Cora has been happy with his progress, stating his health as a reason why early on.
“The good thing about this is that we’re getting the ‘23 version of the first half when he was healthy,” said Cora. “He’s hitting the ball hard. He was hitting lefties and righties. So I do believe we’re getting that version.”
