Real reason why The Undertaker squashed John Cena at WrestleMania 34 (Exclusive)

Two of WWE's most famous wrestlers, John Cena and The Undertaker, did not face each other at the Grandest Stage of Them All in the peak of their careers. The Undertaker had been synonymous with WrestleMania for most of his career, with a match against the Deadman at the Show of Shows being no less than a title shot.

In the weeks leading up to WrestleMania 34, John Cena had failed in trying to get himself on the card, losing out on multiple opportunities. In a last-ditch attempt, he called out The Undertaker to have a match at the event, but got no response from him. Eventually, Cena attended the show as a fan, and fans were treated to an impromptu match between the two when The Undertaker showed up at the event.

Speaking during an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda Wrestling, John Cena Sr. revealed an interesting detail about the match. The match between these two legendary wrestlers split opinions amongst the fans as it was an extremely short one, where Cena got squashed. Cena Sr. revealed that the match was booked that way as it was a callback to a conversation Taker had with Cena, early in his career.

He came to fight The Undertaker, got in the ring. "Ah, I'm here with the Undertaker". And it was over. And I think it was good storytelling. It was good because you had the loudmouth on one end. And I can always remember, The Undertaker, when John first started, he confronted him once. When I remember what Taker said to him, he said, "Kid, you're writing checks your a** can't cash. And so be very careful." And it was the same type of thing. I remember I went back and I looked back and forth and I say, This is how it all started," Cena Sr. said.

Their match at WrestleMania 34 was the last time John Cena and The Undertaker faced each other. Since then, the Deadman has retired from in-ring competition, and Cena is on his way to retirement. The 17-time World Champion will hang up his boots at next month's Saturday Night's Main Event.
