Real Madrid star winning Club World Cup fitness race in major Xabi Alonso boost

Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso is finalising his squad plans for the FIFA Club World Cup.

The former Bayer Leverkusen coach has until June 10 to confirm his travelling party for the competition as Los Blancos kick off against Al Hilal in Miami on June 18.

On the back of a frustrating domestic campaign in Madrid, hopes are high over a recovery in the USA, and Alonso will wait until the last minute to reveal his plans with the majority of his star names still away on international duty.

However, there is already a lengthy list of confirmed injury absentees for Alonso, including defensive quartet Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger, Ferland Mendy and David Alaba.

Dani Carvajal and Brahim Diaz are both expected to travel after recovering from injuries - with Brazilian duo Rodrygo Goes and Endrick Felipe expected to be included - following their omission from Carlo Ancelotti's first Brazil squad this month.

Rodrygo is preparing to fight for his Real Madrid future, after indicating he does not want to leave Madrid, amid growing transfer interest from Premier League giants Arsenal.

Who is in Xabi Alonso's Real Madrid squad?

The bulk of Alonso's squad for the tournament picks itself, aside from the above injured players, with Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham and Thibaut Courtois all ready to travel.

New signings Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold will also make the trip with the latter backed by England boss Thomas Tuchel to impress in North America.

France international Eduardo Camavinga is battling to be fit in time, despite being sidelined since mid-April with a muscular injury, and reports from Marca indicate he is winning his fitness race to make the flight to Florida.

Alonso will keep a close eye on the 22-year-old in the coming days as he wants as many options as possible for the Club World Cup.
