Newcastle United planning ambitious approach for Premier League midfielder

Newcastle United are preparing a bold move to sign Manchester City star Jack Grealish on loan this summer, as the England international faces a crossroads in his career.

According to The Sun, manager Eddie Howe is ready to personally intervene and push for a deal that could revive Grealish’s fading form and national team hopes.

The 29-year-old midfielder has struggled for game time under Pep Guardiola, starting just seven Premier League games in the 2024–25 season, and was dropped on the final day and is reportedly to be excluded from City's FIFA Club World Cup squad, signs pointing to a potential exit from the Etihad.

If Newcastle can cover Grealish’s massive £300,000-per-week wages or negotiate for City to subsidize a portion, they could secure one of England’s most high-profile talents without paying a fee.

The Magpies are also monitoring potential summer offers for winger Anthony Gordon. If Gordon leaves, the urgency to bring in a direct replacement like Grealish would only increase.

The former Aston Villa captain joined Manchester City for a British-record £100 million [$135m] fee in 2021, and while he played a vital role in City's treble-winning campaign in 2022–23, his influence has since waned. Grealish’s drop in form has cost him his England spot under new boss Thomas Tuchel.

“He grows in big matches but he’s a player who needs minutes and minutes and minutes and simply does not get them for a very long time. That’s basically everything. Nothing has changed,” Tuchel told reporters.

Newcastle's recruitment team is receiving continuous updates on Grealish’s availability. While several European clubs have shown interest, few are willing or able to meet the financial demands involved.
