The blocky world of Minecraft is filled with trees that are absolutely necessary for getting ahead in the game. Players need to break trees to get wood and make basic tools. Wood blocks and planks are also needed for making bases, structures, and a lot of useful things. While there are a lot of varieties of trees, which one is the best of them all?
In this article, we will be ranking all the trees in Minecraft based on their appearance. We will look at multiple factors for this ranking; from the appearance of the canopy and wood to how the planks and wood blocks look in a base.

Minecraft trees ranked based on their appearance
11 ) Oak
Oak trees are the most common tree variant in Minecraft (Image via Mojang Studios)Oak tree is the classic tree that is found almost everywhere in Minecraft. It has a light-brown appearance and since they are the most common tree variant, they are placed the lowest in the ranking.
There is a rarer version of the tree called “balloon” oak with a wider trunk and bushier canopy. Oak is great to get started in the game but for building projects or even adding greenery to your world, they don’t really stand out that much.
10) Azalea
The azalea tree in Minecraft has magenta flowers on them (Image via Mojang Studios)The azalea tree is very similar to an oak tree in terms of appearance. In fact, the wood you get from this tree is oak and hence, it finds the second-last spot in this list. In terms of building, it has nothing special to offer. The reason why it sits above oak is because of the appearance of the canopy. With magenta flowers all over, it certainly looks more pleasing than the plain oak tree.
9) Spruce
Spruce trees can be found in the colder biomes (Image via Mojang Studios)Spruce is also a common tree variant in Minecraft but what makes it different from oak and azalea is the darker color of the wood and the variety of shapes it comes in. There’s the thin pine version, then a “lollipop” variant, mega pine, and even a mega spruce. It’s great for building houses and other structures in colder biomes due to the dark appearance.
8) Jungle
Jungle tree variants can grow massive in size (Image via Mojang Studios)The jungle tree is one of the rarest trees in the blocky world and they also look gorgeous. While the wood pattern is very similar to the oak tree, it’s the shape and canopy of this variant that makes it so good.
The combination of light brown trunk with vibrant green leaves looks great. Plus, there is also a mega jungle tree variant that is massive in size with the trunk covered in green, perfect for making tree houses.
7) Dark Oak
Dark oak trees can be massive in girth (Image via Mojang Studios)Dark oak trees can be found in the dark forest and Mojang Studios really increased the risk of getting lost in this region by making this tree variant thick and dark. The combination of vibrant green and dark brown looks great, and if you break the tree you get a ton of wood. All these qualities make the dark oak a wonderful tree variant in the game.
6) Mangrove
Mangrove trees have a unique appearance (Image via Mojang Studios)Mangrove trees stand out with their red-orange wood color and the unique canopy shape due to their propagules. These trees grow both on land and water and you can find them in muddy mangrove swamps. Even if you are not using it for building anything, they can be the perfect decorative accessory, especially for Halloween-theme builds.
5) Acacia
Acacia trees have a beautiful orange core (Image via Mojang Studios)Acacia trees can be found in the savanna biome and they offer some of the most unique looking wood blocks in the game. The canopy has a light-green appearance which looks decent. However, it is the wood where the visual magic lies.
The bark of acacia logs has light and dark grey stripes with a vibrant orange interior. The color combination of pale grey and vibrant orange makes acacia one of the most visually striking woods in the game.
4) Birch
Birch trees in Minecraft have unique pattern on the trunk (Image via Mojang Studios)The canopy of the birch tree looks very simple and the tree also has a very common shape. What makes it special and so high up in this list is that it’s the only white tree in the game. You can use birch wood blocks and planks in almost any biome to make bases or structures and they will visually stand out.
It is also worth noting that birch has a unique spotted texture on the logs and a modder created a texture pack that gave the trees “blinking” eyes. Imagine a haunted birch forest with those eyes watching you.
3) Crimson and warped fungus
The crimson fungus tree can be found in the Nether (Image via Mojang Studios)Crimson and warper fungus are variants of the huge fungus trees that are found in the Nether biome. Strictly speaking, they are not trees but they look like them and hence, they are on this list.
The reason why this variant is high in this list is because of the appearance. The deep, blood-red color of the crimson fungus and the dark teal color of the warped fungus make them perfect for adding a dash of colors to your builds.
They look unique, alien, and all you need to do is travel to this fiery dimension to get them. You might even get the dried ghast during this trip, making the journey even more worth it.
2) Pale oak
Pale oak trees were recently added to Minecraft (Image via Mojang Studios)Pale oak tree was added to Minecraft last year along with the pale garden biome, the creaking mob, etc. Pale oak trees might not look great in the pale garden biome because everything is desaturated, unless you make a base with vibrant colors. However, when you take the pale oak tree to other biomes, your builds will look very unique.
What’s even better is that you can use the resin block and the eyeblossom flower to add orange color to your base and create the perfect balance of muted and vibrant colors. The pale oak tree could have been even better if the developers made the canopy more unique, similar to willow.
1) Cherry
Cherry trees look gorgeous in Minecraft (Image via Mojang Studios)Many players might have guessed that the cherry tree would be at the number one spot in this list and they would be right. Cherry is one of the best looking trees in Minecraft and everything about it is wonderful.
The lush pink canopy with the falling leaves effect and the brown trunk perfectly contrasting with the leaves of lighter color make it the best tree to build structures and use it as a decorative item around your base.
