Rams’ Matthew Stafford gets real on Week 2 opponent with eye-opening take

The New York Giants caught the attention of everyone on Sunday night, following their 28-20 win against the Dallas Cowboys.

Even the attention of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, who is scheduled to face them during a Week 2 matchup on Monday Night Football.

Stafford, who is the league’s reigning MVP appeared on SiriusXM NFL Radio show “Let’s Go” which he co-hosts with Jim Gray and called the Giants a “dangerous” team.

“I thought the Giants did a heck of a job the other night,” Stafford said. “I thought it was cool on the weekend of September 11th, 25 years later, for the Giants in New York City to get a win, felt right and felt great to have the NFL have something like that happen and those guys play well.”

After suffering an eye-opening 27-7 Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne, Australia, on Thursday, Stafford said that he was watching the game to support his brother-in-law, Chad Hall, who is the team’s wide receivers coach, but noted he “saw a young team with a bunch of talent.“

Stafford opened the segment by praising the Giants’ pass rush, which was a nightmare for the Cowboys’ offense by quarterback Dak Prescott to 175 yards passing, despite not landing a sack on him.

“I think Dak’s played at a high level for a long time now, and with CeeDee [Lamb] and Pick [George Pickens] and all those guys, they’re really talented on the outside,” Stafford said. “So for them to get that win, 28-20, was a big start for their season.”

The Giants defense is a revamped young group that is starting to find it’s footing in the NFL. It is led by veterans Brian Burns, and Tremain Edmunds — while young promising stars like Abdul Carter and rookie linebacker Arvelle Reese are making their presence felt.

While the defense left a strong impression on Stafford, so did the offense. He couldn’t help but praise second-year starting quarterback Jaxson Dart, who completed 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards and 3 touchdowns.

“The young quarterback, Jaxson Dart, I thought played really well, played within himself, made some plays with his feet,” Stafford said.

Second-year running back and third-year wide receiver Cam Skattebo and Malik Nabers, who are both coming off season-ending injuries last year, also looked refreshed as Skattebo rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown, while Nabers had six receptions for 69 yards.

While both teams caught the attention of everyone during Week 1, it’s still a long road ahead for both sides as they still have another 16 games left to endure before the regular season comes to an end.
