Creepy California Google worker caught in heinous act with female customer’s phone

A routine home internet installation turned into a privacy nightmare for an Orange County woman when a Wi-Fi technician secretly texted himself an intimate video from her phone.

Irvine police arrested 37-year-old Edward Gray-McCannon at his Hemet home on Sept. 11 on charges of commercial burglary, unauthorized computer access and distributing private sexual images without consent. He remains in the Orange County Jail.

Authorities said Gray-McCannon arrived at the victim’s Irvine home in August to set up her internet. At the time, he was working as a contractor with ITC Service Group Acquisition for GFiber, which was formerly known as Google Fiber and remains partially owned by Alphabet.

Gray-McCannon, a 37-year-old installer from GFiber, was arrested after texting himself a personal, explicit video from a customer’s mobile phone during an installation. Irvine Police Dept

Once the setup was complete, he asked for her cellphone to run connectivity tests. He then spent nearly 15 minutes out of her sight with the device.

Authorities said Gray-McCannon allegedly located a sexually explicit video the woman had previously sent to her partner and forwarded it to his own number via iMessage. To cover his tracks, he deleted the outgoing text from her phone’s message history.

Weeks later, the victim opened her linked iPad and spotted the deleted text in her synced message log. She traced the phone number back to the technician who installed her Wi-Fi and filed a police report on Sept. 9.

Authorities fear she may not be his only target and suspect Gray-McCannon could have done this in other homes. Police ask anyone with relevant information to contact Detective Sanders at [email protected].
